Making a Difference
Since 2004, Kovarus has been dedicated to supporting great philanthropic causes. Through a passion for cycling, Kovarus’ has helped to promote riding at all levels in Northern California while providing an opportunity for community members to ride together to support a good cause. The Kovarus Racing Team(Kovarus / Wells Fargo) and Kovarus Cycling Club (Kovarus / Danville Bike) are both charitable organizations equally committed to cycling and to helping raise awareness of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Proceeds will benefit the Pete Zucker Foundation, “For Pete's Sake” aimed at raising awareness for the ALS and finding a treatment for this incurable disease.
In April of 2010, Zucker, an elite athlete and member of the Kovarus/Wells Fargo Cycling team, was diagnosed with ALS. ALS is a progressive terminal disease, and once diagnosed the typical lifespan is 2-5 years. The disease affects all voluntary muscles, including the respiratory system, which take away one’s ability to breathe and leads to death. The racing team and club are committed to raising awareness to this little known disease which receives very little funding for research.

Kovarus / Wells Fargo Racing /C4 Team
Kovarus / Wells Fargo Racing Team is a non-profit organization promoting competitive cycling at all levels.
Based in the Bay Area, the Kovarus / Wells Fargo Racing / C4 Racing program has grown significantly in membership, sponsor support, local presence and race results every year since its inception. Despite this growth, its values have never changed: riders strive to 1) be supportive members of the cycling and greater communities, and 2) make valuable contributions in the form of mentorship, event organization and race participation. The team will be raising money for ALS through the Pete Zucker Foundation, “For Pete’s Sake” through the proceeds of the annual Mt. Diablo Hill Climb (Northgate time trial), a charity ride and annual dinner. Kovarus / Wells Fargo Racing Team goal is to bring the NorCal cycling community together to raise awareness (and money!) for ALS in support of the Pete Zucker Foundation http://www.petezuckerfoundation.org/. The team is excited to be racing for such a great philanthropic cause.

About Pete Zucker Foundation
In April of 2010 Pete was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gherig’s disease. ALS is a progressive terminal disease. Once diagnosed, the typical lifespan is 2-5 years. Pete is now approaching the end, as his respiratory capacity tested at 110% when first diagnosed, and it is now down to 6%. ALS affects all voluntary muscles, including the respiratory of which it will take away one’s ability to breathe which leads to death.
There is no cure, or treatment for ALS, and it is not a well-known disease of which it gets very little funding for research. I have found that many people have heard ALS, or Lou Gherig, but have no idea what it does. It is an awful disease. Pete, once an incredible athlete, is completely paralyzed, cannot speak or eat, and is just waiting to die. Brutal but true.
We wanted to do something, so we started The Pete Zucker Foundation, “For Pete’s Sake”. We are trying to raise money for research, and build awareness of this devastating disease. “For Pete’s Sake” sweatshirts, t-shirts and socks are being worn all over our community and beyond, supporting our cause. Pete's teammates from his local cycling team, now Kovarus, and triathlon club, Forward Motion, continue to be there for support, raise money, and spread awareness through the athletic community of which Pete had once been so active in.
